Bears vs. Packers: Who Has the Most Annoying Fans? (NFL Fan Rivalry) (2026)

The NFL offseason, often a barren landscape of meaningful news, occasionally yields unexpected gems. While sifting through the usual quiet, I stumbled upon a delightful piece of gossip that felt too good not to share: Darius Slay, the Lions' formidable cornerback, recently hosted a retirement party, and it was quite the gathering of Detroit alumni. Seeing names like Jim Caldwell pop up among the attendees was a pleasant surprise, a reminder of shared history and camaraderie that transcends current team allegiances.

A Shifting Fanbase Hierarchy

This period of relative quiet also provided an opportune moment to reflect on something that has been simmering for a while: the evolving landscape of NFL fanbases and, more specifically, who is currently the most irksome. Personally, I think the Chicago Bears have finally ascended to the top of the "most annoying fan base" rankings, unseating their long-time rivals. It’s a bold claim, I know, but hear me out as I work my way up from the bottom.

The Pleasant Northerners: Minnesota Vikings Fans

At number three, I place the Minnesota Vikings faithful. They are, in my opinion, remarkably pleasant. Much like Lions fans, they haven't experienced the ultimate triumph of a Super Bowl, though they've made a few appearances since the 70s. What makes them less annoying is their general demeanor; they often direct their frustrations more towards their own front office than their rivals. My interactions with Vikings fans have consistently been rational and cordial. It certainly doesn't hurt their cause that they boast one of the league's premier wide receivers and a solid defense. While they might not be the most formidable opponents on the field, especially at home, their fanbase is far from irritating.

The Echoes of Glory: Green Bay Packers Fans

Moving to second place, we have the Green Bay Packers fans. I suspect their current state is a lingering hangover from decades of unparalleled success. The sheer weight of Lombardi's championships and early Super Bowl victories, followed by more recent triumphs in '97 and 2010, has kept them in a perpetual state of celebratory indulgence. It's as if they've been drinking from the fountain of success for so long that they've forgotten what sobriety feels like. However, I believe recent events are slowly bringing them back to reality. The precarious position of their franchise, with questions surrounding Jordan Love, a thin receiving corps, offensive line concerns, and an "interestingly built" defense, is starting to sober up many of the faithful. While they still occasionally indulge in the hope of a new move, their boisterousness has certainly diminished.

The Reigning Champions of Annoyance: Chicago Bears Fans

And then there are the Chicago Bears fans, who have, in my estimation, claimed the grand prize. What makes them particularly maddening is the sheer disconnect between their fervent pronouncements and their team's actual performance. Unlike the Packers, who have a rich history to draw upon, the current Bears are a far cry from the legendary '85 squad. The Ben Johnson situation, while a point of interest for Lions fans, has been wildly misinterpreted by some Bears supporters. To compare the current Bears offense to the Lions simply because Johnson was once their coordinator is, in my opinion, ludicrous and unfounded. They lack an accurate passer, true stud wide receivers (though Odunze shows promise), and a top-tier running back. At best, they are a budget version of the Lions, and yet, the "we're going to own the North" rhetoric is deafening.

If I have to hear one more proclamation about the Bears dominating the NFC North this year, I might just resort to extreme measures. It's remarkable how, while other franchises have been actively improving, the Bears have largely remained stagnant. Their seven comeback wins last season, while a testament to their resilience, are hardly an indicator of a quarterback with "ice in his veins." In fact, Caleb Williams' personality and playing style strike me as more performative than genuinely creative. His tendency to scramble and appear overwhelmed, hoping for a lucky break, is more indicative of fear than of calculated brilliance. From my perspective, the Bears will likely finish around 8-9 this season. While they may no longer be the basement dwellers, the true top of the NFC North clearly belongs to another team, and it's certainly not Chicago.
